Environmental Leadership, Social Responsibility and Governance
We're committed to producing cleaner energy and making a positive impact on the communities we serve
At Tampa Electric, we believe our actions today can create a brighter future for us all. Our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments reflect this belief. We are focused on increasing reliability and affordability while growing our investments in a cleaner energy future, making positive contributions to our community and realizing our vision with respect to the people and communities we serve.
Environmental Leadership
Ensuring a bright tomorrow starts with the work we do today. We have been helping our customers save energy and money with energy-efficiency programs for decades. We are a leading producer of solar energy in Florida. We expect that by 2031, 20 percent of our energy mix will be solar. Our innovation and investments are reducing emissions and waste even as our community grows – and we are developing new programs to protect and preserve Florida's natural beauty while meeting present and future energy needs.
Reducing Emissions and Waste
Since 1999, we've committed to an environmental improvement plan that reduces emissions while keeping rates affordable for our customers. In fact, we’ve reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 56 percent, nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by 97 percent and sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions by 99 percent. . Conserving Energy and Water
Tampa Electric offers nearly 30 energy-efficiency programs run by our team of nationally certified energy experts. Additionally, our solar fields housed on former farming parcels require minimal water usage, allowing us to save billions of gallons of water, preserving that precious resource.
Conserving Wildlife and Habitat
We take pride in ensuring the safety and habitats of Florida’s wildlife. We were the first utility in Florida to set up an Avian Protection Plan for migratory birds, preventing electrocution and collisions with electric infrastructure. In addition, our Big Bend Power Station provides a warm-water home for manatees in the winter months. Manatees gather in the canal by the hundreds each winter and make for incredible sights for millions of people at our Manatee Viewing Center, which opened in 1986.
The Manatee Viewing Center is the cornerstone of our Florida Conservation and Technology Center, a 500-acre campus that showcases stewardship, research, habitat restoration, help for endangered species, education and more.
Social Responsibility
We believe in promoting the greater good of the communities we serve and doing all we can to positively impact society around us. Whether through ensuring a diverse and inclusive workforce, investing in programs that promote growth and innovation and cultural vibrancy, or ensuring the safety and well-being of our customers and community members – we are dedicated to being a reliable and socially responsible neighbor.
Investing in Our Community
Investing today for a stronger, healthier and more prosperous society tomorrow is at the heart of our corporate citizenship. We believe we can make a difference by building knowledgeable, innovative, healthy and vibrant communities – and we have done so through financial investments and volunteering in the neighborhoods where we’ve lived, worked and served for more than 125 years.

Fostering a Culture of Belonging
Creating a more equitable and inclusive society begins at the local level. For us, that starts with fostering a company culture where all our employees are encouraged to bring their unique talents, experiences and perspectives to work every day. At Tampa Electric, we are committed to ensuring we not only reflect the diverse communities we serve, but that we look holistically at how we promote an organizational culture where every employee feels truly welcomed, valued and engaged.
To help us advance this commitment, we established an Inclusion and Diversity Council in 2020 to drive these efforts across the company. The Council is supported by a broad team of ambassadors, who are committed to advancing and championing this work. To date, these efforts have included launching unconscious bias training for all employees, reviewing and aligning our workforce and talent-acquisition processes and practices to ensure inclusion and diversity, and spotlighting these important conversations each month.
